Johnny S. Canion DICKINSON – Mr. Johnny S. Canion, soul winner for the Lord Jesus Christ, closed his eyes for the last time in this world and then opened them for the first time face to face with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, September 11, 2018. Born July 17, 1945 in Beaumont, Texas, Johnny graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor’s in Accounting degree. He met and married the love of his life, Sandy, in 1966 and they were blessed with three beautiful children.

Johnny had a servant’s heart and gave back in many ways including serving our country as a medic in the U.S. Army Reserves for 14 years. While his professional career was centered on counting numbers as an accountant, he preferred counting souls for Christ through his work with Child Evangelism Fellowship, missionary trips, Vacation Bible Schools, Sunday School, and even from his hospital bed at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Johnny was a former member of First Baptist Church of Alta Loma and currently was a faithful member of Sagemont Church, where he loved lifting the Lord’s name in song with the Men of Praise singing group.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sandy Canion; his children, Adam and wife, Stacy, Scott and wife, Christine, Allison and husband, Peter Gentala; grandchildren, Heston, Griffin, Nathan, Brennan, Abby, Wesley, Seth, Ransom, Timmy, Asher and Zach; brother, David; sisters, Betty Woods and Jan Lamb. A service remembering Johnny’s life and celebrating his home going will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Alta Loma, Pastors John Mark Benson and Stuart Rothberg officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday evening in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home.

A private interment will be conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his fellow singing members of the Men of Praise. Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to Child Evangelism Fellowship through Mission Department at Sagemont Church.
