Jose Enrique Gamez Avila, age 20, of Wapello, died Monday morning, November 19, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. He died as a result of an auto accident last Thursday near Iowa City. Jose gave the gift of his organs to benefit others.

The son of Esban Castilleja and Martha Avila, he was born on February 12, 1998 in Monterrey, Mexico. Jose graduated from Wapello High School in 2016 and had worked as a clerk at Casey’s in Wapello. He was baptized as a Catholic and enjoyed music and computers and was very intelligent.

He was a good son, very friendly, and enjoyed helping others. His family includes his parents, a brother, and a sister all of Wapello and his grandparents of Mexico. The family will meet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello followed by a funeral ceremony at 7:30 PM with Pastor Josue Villatoro from the Calvary Church in Muscatine.

Cremation will be fulfilled following the funeral.
