Obituary for Joseph Balint Jr. Joseph Balint, Jr. 83 Joseph Balint, Jr. aged 83, a sincerely loving and compassionate man, died peacefully on January 13, 2018 at Atrium Senior Living of Matawan. Joseph was born August 31, 1934 in Columbus, New Jersey to Joseph Balint Sr. and Julia Medgyesy. Joseph grew up in Bordentown, NJ and was a graduate of William MacFarland High School.
Joseph married Madeline Carolyn Vanczak, a dancer on Dick Clark’s Bandstand, on October 29, 1960 and they resided together in Trenton on High Street for nearly 50 years. For one day shy of 30 years Joseph was a dedicated employee of the U.S. Steel Corporation where he made and inspected the quality of steel cable used in the construction of elevators and bridges. He was retired by the corporation’s Trenton plant closing with a radically reduced pension because he did not work a full thirty years.
He was very disappointed by this slight by the company which he had served so loyally. Don’t count on corporations to make America great again. Balint is a Hungarian name meaning strong and healthy, and Joseph was proud both of his ethnic heritage and of his physical fortitude.
As a young man he was a boxing enthusiast and sometimes sparred with professional boxers. Joseph carried the BRACA2 gene mutation which can produce prostate cancer. By age 50 he was diagnosed with that cancer, and via invasive surgery, was a survivor who continued to thrive for decades.
One of Joseph’s greatest passions was travel which took him to Europe and Africa and on driving vacations to at least 46 states in the USA. Joseph loved to drive. He taught his daughter to drive: to always use turn indicators; to always maintain a safe travel distance.
Caution was his model for life. He is survived by his daughter, Christine R. Balint. A private memorial will be held at the destination Joseph chose for his final rest.
