Joseph Ignatius Romano August 30, 1921 – January 28, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Joseph Ignatius Romano, age 97 of Missouri City/Friendswood, Texas passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 at Serenity Gardens Assisted Living in Friendswood, Texas. Joseph was born August 30, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois and was a longtime resident of Missouri City. He proudly served his country in the United States Army under General George S. Patton in World War II, during the Korean War and Vietnam War for over 29 years.

He was involved in the second landing in Normandy on D-Day in 1944. He also was involved in the Liberation of Dachau in 1945. His favorite title was that of the “Happy Santa”.

He was recognized by Mayor Allen Owen for all his dedication in sharing the Christmas spirit of giving for many years in Missouri City. He continued to be the “Happy Santa” up until December 2018. Joseph is preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Romano; parents, Joseph Romano, Angela Paperseria and three siblings, a sister and two brothers.

Joseph is survived by his daughters, Ingeborg Piller and Ruby Romano; sons, Joseph Romano, Richard Romano and Anthony Romano; five grandchildren; along with many dear friends and extended family. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Scott Funeral Home with Funeral Services beginning at 4:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at 11:15 AM on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
