Joseph’s Obituary Joseph S. Mancini 1922 – 2019 SCARBOROUGH – Joseph Silvio Mancini, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2019, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., the son of Antonio and Louise (Bilodeau) Mancini. In 1943, during WWII, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, proudly serving his country, mainly in Okinawa as an Airplane Armorer, for three years until his honorable discharge in 1946.

He was later employed as a crane operator for Merrill Transport, where he worked for many years. Joe married the love of his life, Carolin Maietta, on November 7, 1943. They shared many wonderful years together.

He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in South Portland, where he served as an altar boy in his youth, and in later years helped with church collections. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and playing games of cribbage. He would often joke and loved to make people laugh.

Joe is predeceased by his wife, Caroline (2003), brother, Nicholas, three sisters, Lucy Yuill, Rosalie White, Patty Mancini. He is survived by his brothers, John Mancini of Florida, Charles Mancini and wife Winona of Windham; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours, 4-7 p.m., Thursday, March 7, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.

Funeral Mass, 11 a.m., Friday, March 8, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, South Portland. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Condolences may be expressed online at www.
