Joseph W. Brochtrup, age 76, of Fremont, formerly of Freedom, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. He went to school in Kaukauna and married Anne M. Kilsdonk, and together have recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Joe was in construction and was a mechanic for many years.

He owned his own mechanics shop for several years. Joe was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and spend time at his home on Lake Poygan.

Joe is survived by his wife, Anne Brochtrup, Fremont; children: Dean (Kelly) Brochtrup, Freedom; Sheila (Steve) Hartlaben, Navarino; Susan (John) Drewieske, Hilbert; Shelly Bogenschutz, Little Chute; grandchildren: Michael (Christina) Brochtrup, Kimberly (fiance Mark Lachapell) Brochtrup; Sara (Jordan) Fischer, Stacy (Cory) Bohm, Tyler (Kelly) Bazile, Travis Bazile, Amanda Bogenschutz and Carissa (Bramwell) Christy; great grandchildren: Hailey and Kathryn Brochtrup, Landon and Natalie Fischer, Payten, Reid and Wyatt Bohm, Greyson Bowers, Chloe and Grace Christy; step grandchildren: Kyle and Nick (Jenna) Selig, Amber and Austin Drewieske, Amanda (Joe) Kesler; step great grandchildren: Hayden, Carter and Collin Selig, Nathan and Aaron Kesler. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothea (Peters) Brochtrup; stepmother, Ann (Leanna) Brochtrup; son, Daniel Brochtrup; great granddaughter, MicKenzie Brochtrup; father and mother-in-law: Wilbert and Catherine Kilsdonk. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2019, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home FREEDOM LOCATION, N3972 Columbia Ave.
