Joseph W. Kalamar November 16, 1925 – December 31, 2018 Share this obituary Local Florists View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Joseph W. Kalamar, 93, of Northampton, formerly of Hokendauqua, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. He was a 1943 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a member of the reunion committee. Joseph was the husband of the late Mary E. (Pavlovchin) Kalamar, who died December 21, 2014.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Joseph and Fannie (Pondelek) Kalamar. Joseph retired from Mack Trucks in 1986 after 43 years of service. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII.

Joseph was an active member of St. John Fisher R.C. Church, the former St. Andrew’s R.C. Church in N. Catasauqua. His activities at church included singing on the men’s choir, Holy Name Society, senior work group, Young at Heart senior group. He was also assistant Boy Scout master.

Joseph was a member of the UAW Local #677. He was the Lehigh Valley Democratic committee man in the Hokendauqua area. Joseph was secretary and a Board of Directors Member of the Bethlehem branch of the First Windish Fraternal Benefit Society of America.

Survivors: son, Joseph “Jack” Kalamar and his wife, Alice; daughters, Patricia “Tish,” wife of Jim McCormick, Gina, wife of Jim Filipovits; grandchildren, Kelly Broeg, Brian Lelko, Shannon Thomas, Amanda Kalamar, Erica Filipovits and Matthew Filipovits; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Mary; a brother, John Kalamar; sisters, Helen Stubits and Eleanor Haupt. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5th at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Fisher R.C. Church, 123 3rd St., N. Catasauqua.

Family and friends may call Saturday 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton. Burial will follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Contributions: Memorials may be presented to St. John R.C. Church in loving memory of Joseph.
