Obituary for Joseph M. Wagner Joseph M. Wagner, age 89 of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 3:00 am. Friday, (May 25, 2018) at Cathedral Health Care in Jasper, Indiana. Joe was born on May 23, 1929, at Mariah Hill, Indiana to Richard and Veronica (Bockting) Wagner.
He married Viola Rasche on December 26, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana. He graduated from Dale High School, Class of 1947. Served in the US Navy from 1948 thru 1952 during the Korean Conflict.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from St.Louis University in 1957. In 1958 , Joe started the physical therapy department at Memorial Hospital in Jasper , Indiana. He worked for many years at Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Huntingburg, Indiana.
He also traveled to many surrounding nursing homes as a physical therapist and provided treatment for many home-bound patients. After his retirement, Joe was the Dubois County Veteran’s Service Officer for ten years. He coordinated drivers and drove countless miles to take veterans to their appointments between Marion, Illinois and Louisville, Kentucky.
Joe was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, Precious Blood’s church choir, and Precious Blood Men’s Society for many years. He was also a member of Ireland Knights of Columbus where he was a past Grand Knight. St. Vincent Depaul, American Legion Post # 147, V.W.W. Post # 673 and a past member of celebration Singers.
Surviving wife of sixty two years, Viola. Two daughters, Therese (Mark) Eutsler, Linden, IN Clare Wagner Raley, Louisville, KY One Son, Blaise (Alejandra) Wagner, Eldersburg, MD Seven grandchildren One sister, Eugenia Meyer, Mariah Hill, IN Preceding him in death is one son Philip Gerard Wagner, Three brother, Louis, Jerome and Leonard Wagner also four sisters, Rita Jochim, Rose “Betty” Schnieders, Julia Anna Dilger and Mary Wagner. Mass of Christian burial for Joseph Wagner will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, (June 4, 2018) at Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ireland.
Visitation from Noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, (June 3, 2018) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana. Rosary will be held at 11:45 a.m. Sunday. Marine Corp League will hold a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made for Masses, Cemetery maintenance for St. Mary Cemetery in Ireland or to the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).
