Obituary for Mrs. Joyce Ann Townsel – Macon Joyce Ann Macon was born in Oktibbeha County, Starkville, Mississippi to the late Jessie and Martha Lou Townsel on May 20, 1956. She was the eleventh child. At an early age Mrs. Joyce Macon accepted Christ as her personal Savior at Josey Creek Baptist Church.

She later united with Mt. Peiler Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed. She was actively involved in the following church ministries: Gospel Choir, Beginner’s Choir, Chancel Choir, NBC, Sunday School, Deaconess Ministry, Wedding Committee, Nursing Guild, VBS, Children Church, Hospitality Committee, Marquis Committee, and Decorating Committee.

Mrs. Macon attended school in Starkville and graduated from Starkville High School in 1974. She also received certifications from East Mississippi Community College in Mayhew, Mississippi in Nursing (1976) and Emergency Medical Technician (1989). After graduation, she worked as an Intensive Care Unit Technician for Oktibbeha Hospital in Starkville for 8 years.

She also worked in Medical Records for North Mississippi Internal Medicine Clinic and Oktibbeha Hospital for over 15 years prior to retiring in 2008. Sister Macon married Bobby L. Macon on April 11, 1975 and to that union two children were born. She was a loving and kind person who enjoyed giving to others.

She was loved by so many because of her selflessness. She leaves to celebrate her memory, her husband Bobby Lee Macon: one son: Travis T. Macon (Deimara) of Senatobia, MS; one daughter, Phanaka Jones (Travis) of Birmingham; one stepson, Ricky Rogers (Sharon) of Starkville, MS; three sisters: Helen Townsel of Starkville, MS, Clara Jackson (Sammy) of Savannah, GA, Barbara Mixon of Savannah, GA; six brothers: Robert Townsel (Pearl) of Starkville, MS, Walter Townsel of Miami, FL, R. Dell Townsel of New York, NY, Jessie Townsel of Starkville, MS, Howard Townsel of Gulfport, MS, Lester Townsel (Bernice) of Starkville, MS; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
