JOYCE EVELYN YOUNG Joyce Evelyn Young passed away peacefully at the age of 68, Monday evening, January 28, 2019 at Kansas City Hospice House after a long fight with illness. Joyce was born on May 19, 1950, to Love and Lucille (Malone) Givens. Joyce was the third of sixth children.

Joyce was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri School System. She went on to receive her CNA certification and worked as a nursing assistant at St. Mary’s Hospital, and several other medical facilities. She also worked in administration at Harold Thomas Center.

Joyce married Harold Young and had two daughters Marsha and Michelle. Joyce joined Jamison CME Temple Church at an early age and remained a member until her passing. She loved the Lord.

Joyce was preceded in death by her mother Lucille Givens and brother’s David and Torrance Givens. Joyce will be remembered as a strong, loving woman who believed in God and put family first. Joyce always made a point to take care of those she loved.

Whether it was advice, a home-cooked meal or emotional support, she was always there for you. Joyce had a nurturing and “down-to-earth” spirit, that always made you feel at home. The one thing that meant the most to Joyce was planning and hosting family gatherings.

She loved family and has often been described as the glue that held the family together. Everyone always gravitated to her vivacious and vibrant personality. Joyce lived in the moment and took every opportunity to enjoy her life, despite her illness.

She never let her health stop her from doing the things she loved. Joyce never hesitated to speak her mind. She was full of life and had a dynamic presence about her that will be deeply missed.

Through Joyce’s memory, we are reminded what it truly means to be family. Joyce’s life and memory will be forever cherished in the lives of her children Marsha (Scott) and Michelle (Igor); her siblings Rebecca Givens, Donald (Pidgie) Givens and Dorothy Robertson; her grandchildren Jacob, Jeffery and Lida; her nieces and nephews, best friend Carolyn Davis, and Roy West with a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones.
