Joyce M. Albers, age 91, of Holstein, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center of Aurelia. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Curtis E. Benson officiating.

Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. There will be no visitation. Joyce Mae Ewoldt was born in Ida County, Iowa on January 9, 1927 to Meta and Henry Ewoldt, Jr

She was christened at her grandparent’s home in Ida Grove, Iowa. Her sponsors were Mrs. Bertholdt Ludwig and Mrs. Bernice Juelfs with Pastor John Iverson attending. Joyce was one of seven children.

She graduated from Holstein High School in 1945 and married Clayton H. Albers a year later on July 17 at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein. They resided in Holstein for many years. Joyce worked at the Good Samaritan Society in Holstein in 1967 as the laundry supervisor until retirement in 2008.

Joyce was a member of the United Methodist Church of Holstein where she served in the Ladies Circle. She was also involved in the American Legion Auxiliary for many years and participated in several card clubs. Her love of flowers and gardening, crocheting, knitting and reading was well known to her friends and family.

Joyce enjoyed the tradition of the annual Easter egg hunt which was held outside or in the house during inclement weather. Family get-togethers were a highlight for her. Her grandchildren fondly remember coming to “Grandma Holstein’s” house.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Manwarren and her husband Ron of Spencer, IA and Debra Weiland and her husband Allen of Aurelia, IA; grandchildren and their families, Kelly (Linda) Manwarren and Mackenzie and Kendra of Spencer, IA; Misty (Ethan) Small and Morgan, Rebecca and Judd of Sioux Falls, SD; Redge (Patty) Manwarren and Owen, Kathryn and Maverick of Spencer, IA; Jason (Kristen) Weiland and Kacie, Madison and Cheyenne of Peterson, IA; Nathan Weiland and Sebastian of Osage, IA; and Dawn Weiland and Josie of Storm Lake, IA. She is also survived by a sister, Doris Murphy of Moline, IL and sister-in-law, Shirley Ewoldt of Holstein, IA. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton; granddaughter, Jennie (Manwarren) Gordan; brother, Donald Ewoldt of Holstein and sisters, Lois Ludvigson, Lenore Brosamle, Iona Gehrts and Donna Faye Mier, all of Holstein.
