Mrs. Julia B. “Jennie” (Gavlick) Miller, 90, a former resident of North Washington Street in the Brookside section of the city, entered into Eternal Life early Wednesday morning in the care of Star Hill Rest Home, Wyoming County following a recent illness. Born October 18, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter to the late Frank and Julia (Bania) Gavlick. Educated in the city schools, she was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School, class of 1944.

Until her retirement, Mrs. Miller was self-employed as the owner and operator of Jennie’s Beauty Shop on North Washington Street in Brookside for many years. A life member of the former Saint Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church until its closure, she held membership in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre. Previously, at Saint Stan’s, she was a member of the Confraternity of Women’s Club.

In her spare time, Jennie was an avid bowler and bingo player, who loved to share various stories of family and friends in her beauty shop with her valued patrons. She is remembered as being a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Donald L. Miller on June 15, 2002.

At the time of his passing, the Millers shared some fifty-two years of married life together. She was also preceded by a grandson, Eric Goldsmith as well as several brothers and sisters. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Wayne T. Miller and his wife Christine of West Wyoming and Karen T. Goldsmith and her husband Jerry of Edenton, North Carolina; Grandchildren, Jarrod Schoffler; Ian Goldsmith; Taylor Lee Miller and Jesse Wayne Miller; Five Great-Grandchildren; Several nieces, nephews, former beauty shop clients and dear friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Miller will be conducted on Saturday, October 20th with a Memorial Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor will serve as celebrant and homilist. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the Miller Family.

Relatives and friends may join Jennie’s family for visitation and remembrances prior to her memorial funeral mass directly at church Saturday October 20th from 10:30 until the time of Mass.
