Julia Albers-Rhoades passed away on February 19, 2019 at the Blue Valley Nursing Home at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 2 days. Julia Lucille Albers-Rhoades was born May 17, 1931 near Davenport, Nebraska to Peter and Eleanor (Claybaugh) Snyder. She was baptized at Christ’s Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Julia or Lucille as she was known then, along with her brothers Royce and Arza Jay grew up on the farm where she was born south of Davenport. She attended Happy Hollow School and entered Davenport Community School for her high school years. After Graduating from Davenport, she majored in Home Economics at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for 3 ½ years.
August 30, 1953, Julia was united in marriage to Marine Duane Albers and lived in Lincoln for the first two years of their lives together. Duane liked her first name of Julia instead of Lucille so she became Julia or “Julie”. During that time, she worked for Ben Simons in Lincoln.
Julie and Duane moved to a farm southeast of Davenport in 1955. Duane continued in the Marine Reserve leaving Julie with the farm work one weekend a month and two weeks each summer. Julie and Duane were working partners on the farm, and she was up to the task of irrigating during the summer and caring for livestock when he was gone.
Two children, Tregan and Kimberly were born to this union. In 1970 tragedy struck, and their daughter Kimberly at age 8 was killed in a school van accident along with five other children. The loss of her daughter was a deep sadness for Julie.
She continued to help with the farming and provided daycare for her two grandchildren Tregan II and Trenton until they entered school. In 1994 Duane was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 1996. Julie was a life-long member of Christ’s Lutheran Church in Davenport teaching Sunday School and serving as President of the Church Council.
She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star in Davenport where she held many offices including Worthy Matron. Julie was Duane’s traveling companion when he served the Nebraska Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. They enjoyed traveling the state making many friends.
Julie also was a Grand Supervisor, and part of the1999-2000 Grand Family in the role of Electa. A charter member of the Carleton Miloette Extension club that began in 1958, she had close friendships that spanned 60 years. Julia and Perry Rhoades were married on December 29, 1998.
After living on the farm, they moved to Hebron in 2000. Julie, never one to let grass grow under feet, loved taking care of her yard and garden providing the Southern Hills neighborhood with produce. She joined the Thayer County Hospital Guild and held the office of President for several years receiving the Thayer County Hospital Foundation’s Volunteer of the Year award in 2009.
Julie and Perry became Roadrunner drivers with the Sesostris Shrine in Lincoln transporting children and their families to the Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis. The two also enjoyed playing with a Dulcimer group in Plymouth. In 2014, Julia moved to the Blue Valley Nursing Home.
Her husband Perry passed away in 2017 in Lincoln. Julie is survived by her son Tregan Albers and wife Debra, Davenport. Grandsons Tregan Albers II and wife Sarah, Omaha; and Trenton Albers and wife Stephanie of Papillion, Great Grandsons Marshall and Ethan Albers, sister-in-law Connie Snyder; step daughters Perian Patillo, Lincoln and Jana Kendall, Beatrice; stepson Grant Rhoades, Beatrice; step grandchildren Kylie Pattillo, Kass Pattillo, Jordan Rhoades, Dylan Kendall, Hunter Kendall and wife Brittany; step great grandchildren Jalynn Gray and Grace Tuttle.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Duane Albers, second husband Perry Rhoades; daughter Kimberly Albers, parents, Eleanor and Peter Snyder, brothers Royce Snyder, and Arza Jay Snyder.
