CUYAHOGA FALLS – June Elizabeth (Ferguson) Douglas, age 91 of Cuyahoga Falls took her final journey on May 29, 2019. She began her earthly journey on December 11, 1927. Her mother thought her arrival was a breath of summer and hence her name.

Her final journey is a sentimental journey as she joins her husband, William and parents, Robert and Rhea Ferguson and other loved ones in heaven. A brother, Larry (Mary Alice) Ferguson in Pearcy, Arkansas survives her. The song “Sentimental Journey” was one of her favorites as she mastered it well on the piano.

Her children, Beverly (Lynn) Martin of Jennersville, PA, Cynthia (Tony) Danzo of Dennison, OH, Linda (Wiley) Brooks of Tallmadge, OH, William (Eileen) Douglas of Cuyahoga Falls and Elizabeth Douglas of Cuyahoga Falls will miss hearing her play and sing this song. A daughter, Barbara Neff is deceased. June’s 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and spouses will miss their fun-loving, biggest Ohio State University fan ever.

June was a season ticket holder for OSU football for over 60 years. Saturdays in the fall were always for the Buckeyes. June graduated from North High School in Akron in 1945.

She met future husband, Bill, at business school where they began their journey together for 48 years. They moved to Cuyahoga Falls and reared six children in the little house on Ninth Street. June was encouraging to her children and supported them in their school and career endeavors.

She was a part of community activities as well. She was a 60+ year member of the First United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary, post #281. At the Auxiliary, she promoted Americanism and was chairwoman of the Buckeye Girls State for many years.

Her other activities over the years were working at the Election Polling places, Garden Club, and the Historical Society of Cuyahoga Falls. She spent many summers and winters camping across the country. Bill and June wintered in Florida for many years in their Coachman Camper.

Grandma June was an avid card player. She played with whomever came to visit until the wee hours of the morning.
