June Helen Nicksic, age 87, of New Lisbon passed away peacefully at University Hospital in Madison on Monday, January 14, 2019. June was born to Charles Providence and Hazel Elzina (Streeter) Nibeck on February 25, 1931 in Parnell Iowa. She moved to Mauston in 1941, and was united in holy matrimony to Joseph Francis Nicksic on October 7, 1950 at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in New Lisbon.

June is survived by her loving husband Joe of 68 years, and sons Daniel Nicksic of Tomah, Samuel Nicksic of New Lisbon, James (Shelly) Nicksic of New Lisbon, Stephen Nicksic of New Lisbon, and Robert (Dawn) Nicksic of New Lisbon, as well as fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grand children. June is also survived by her twin sister Jean Bennett of Durand Illinois, sister-in-law Ann Humphrey of Delton Michigan, and sister-in-law Kay Nicksic of Chicago Illinois, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister (Nelmah Gaffney), brother (Arthur Nibeck), sisters-in-law (Mary Phillips, Helen Henry, Sophie Drunasky), brothers-in-law (Dale Bennett, Stephen Nicksic, John Nicksic), and nephews (Charles Nicksic, Patrick Gaffney, Donnie Nibeck).

June had many jobs in the Mauston area, starting as a clerk at Schultz and Sons dime store and at the Mauston Garment Factory. She also worked as an operator at the Mauston telephone company and as a desk clerk at the Travelodge in New Lisbon. She enjoyed many trips to Ho-Chunk Casino to play bingo (and occasionally a slot machine), fishing, and raising her five boys.

June was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind so many beautiful memories. A celebration of June’s life will be held on Saturday, January 19, from 9:00am – 11:00am at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in New Lisbon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery.
