Justin “Juice” Joseph Moore, 88, of Forest Ave, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at home. He was born in Brattleboro, VT, on May 9, 1930, the son of Audrey M. (Grotto) and Henry T. Moore. Justin was Class Marshall at Greenfield High School, Class of 1949.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Justin worked at Western Mass Electric Company as a lineman for 39 years and was a union member of the IBEW Local 761 for 65 years, serving as President for four years. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenfield.
After his service to our country, Justin played semi-pro football for the Greenfield Lions and later the Holyoke Knights. He was a life member of the Lodge of Elks BPOE 1296. Justin coached in the Greenfield Minor League for many years, especially enjoying the championship games against his arch rival and best friend “Rabbit” Graves.
He was a referee for the Franklin County Youth Hockey Association. He enjoyed fishing, golf, crafting jewelry, and was often heard singing Irish songs and other classics. He proudly cheered on his many children and grandchildren in their various sports and extracurricular activities.
His favorite candies included Whoppers, NECCO Wafers, DumDum lollipops and Tootsie Pops. His great grandchildren lovingly called him G-Pop. More than anything, Justin loved his family.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Mary Louise (Campbell) Moore; four sons, Thomas and his wife, Georgia of Greenfield, Michael and his wife Lisa of Leyden, Kevin and his wife Cecilia of Chatham, and Jonathan of Chatham; five daughters, Kathleen Coughlin and her husband Kevin of Greenfield, Karen of Chelsea, Eileen and her wife Helen of Chicago and California, Rosemarie Freeland of Greenfield and Elizabeth and her wife Heather of Greenfield; eighteen grandchildren, Shaun, Kyle and Brodie Coughlin, Rya Kiablick, Monica and Isaac Freeland, Zahri Smith, Robert, Erin, Siobhan, Griffin, Colin and Fiona Moore, Bridget and Brennan Mahoney and Brian, Jodi and Steven Knapp; eight great grandchildren, Madeline, Jamison, Rowan, Chloё, Malcolm, Tyler, Cameron and Kinsey; a brother-in-law, “Best Buddy”, Mathew Polo; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by close friends Rosemarie “Chick” Graves, Frank Kelley and Howie Burns. Justin was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Moore, a sister, Harriet A. Polo, and infant son, Justin J. Moore.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 9:15am from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy Campoli officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 4-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield High School Athletic Association, Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice Services, or to a charity of your choice.
