K. Dennis “Denny” Gerber, age 80, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 8:42pm at his home in Upper Sandusky. Denny was born on August 22, 1938 in Nevada, Ohio, to Karl V. and Regina B. (Koehler) Gerber, who are deceased. He married Barbara Maxwell on August 24, 1958 and she survives.

He is also survived by two children: Rebecca “Becca” (Gary Vigil) Roller of Walsenburg, Colorado, and Maxwell (Catherine) Gerber of Upper Sandusky; seven grandchildren: Isaac (Chavon) Romanko, Abram Johnston, Naomi (James) Berger, Alissa Gerber, Abigail Gerber, Anna Gerber, and Brett Romanko; eight great grandchildren: Elyssa, Mia, and Blaze Romanko, Addalee Johnston, Jaden and Seraphina Berger, and Adelina Faye Bogner. Denny is also survived by a brother, Darl (Lynn) Gerber of Upper Sandusky, and 2 sisters, Elizabeth (Richard) Carroll of Holland, Michigan, and Barbara (Lynn) Gottfried of Upper Sandusky; extended family members, Hans and Ursula Gosteli of Switzerland. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Jacqueline “Jacky” Johnston, and father and mother in law, Samuel North and Francis Ahlene Maxwell.

Denny was a 1956 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, where he was active in several sports. He played football as fullback and was known as “Jake the Snake”. His football team was honored recently into the Wyandot County Sports Hall of Fame.

After graduation Denny farmed with his father on the family farm. He also owned and operated Gerber Performance Center, which later evolved to Gerber Performance – Anything For Karting. Denny supplied anything for go-carting, which he enjoyed participating in for many years.

In his original business, he repaired automobiles, (primarily Volkswagens) and race cars. Denny had a love for the Lord which started in his home church at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Upper Sandusky, where he participated in choir. In 1984, Denny was one of the original members of Community Christian Center.

He played an integral part in forming the church, and served as an Elder. He later attended Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church, where he was active in small groups and Sunday school. He participated in the Upper Sandusky Midget League Football Association where he coached for many years.

He also volunteered as a courier for the American Red Cross. Funeral services for Denny Gerber will be held at 11:00am Friday, December 28, 2018 at Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and from 10am until 11am before the funeral service at the church on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, Les Feldick Ministries, Trinity Evangelical Mission Fund, or Christian Food Pantry and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave.
