Our dearly loved Wife, Mother, Sister and Friend, Karen Huff Burbank, passed away surrounded by her family in the peaceful comfort of her home on Monday morning, March 11, 2019 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Karen was born on July 31, 1960 to Paul A. and Jerry Ann Huff, in Provo, Utah and grew up in Midvale and West Jordan amid many great friends and family members. She graduated from Bingham High School where she excelled and enjoyed being part of the Accappella and Madrigal choirs.
She later became a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Youth Choir and enjoyed many years of singing and performing with them. Music was always a big part of Karen’s life. She had a beautiful voice and played the piano, guitar and organ.
Karen met her husband, Gary Wayne Burbank while they both attended a singles ward. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1989. They established their home in West Jordan and made many lasting memories with their four wonderful children.
Some of Karen’s most precious and fond memories with her children were participating in Little League baseball, going for spontaneous get-aways, and just spending time together playing games, watching movies and laughing. Her favorite place to be was at Bear Lake every summer; camping, boating, sunbathing and singing around the fire with the Huff Family. Karen was always in the service of others and would do anything for her children and family.
She was talented and she shared many of her talents with her friends and those she served. Her many selfless acts were what she was most known for – even when things became hard for her, she was still asking what she could do to help others, and was always concerned that those serving her were also receiving the blessings they needed. She was well known for her fresh baked Cinnamon rolls, baked beans, muddy buddies, and anything made in a dutch oven.
She loved to cook special treats for social events and was often thought of as the life of the party. She enjoyed many good times with her nieces and nephews, and they all have fond memories of spending time with her, because she made them feel like they were very special. Karen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many capacities, but especially loved working with the primary, young women, and going to girls camp.
She also treasured working with “her kids” at Jordan Valley School. She had a very deep love for her students, and the staff she worked with. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary, daughter Natalie & A.J. Lubbers, sons, Bradley and Brayden Burbank, father, Paul A. Huff, brothers, Mike & Joanne Huff, Neil & Brittany Huff and sister, Annette Huff, and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Also survived by her mother-in-law, LaRae Burbank, and sisters and brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her son, Colton W. Burbank, mother, Jerry Ann Huff and father-in-law, Wayne L. Burbank. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Park Stake Center, 7411 S. 4800 West, West Jordan.
Friends may call on Friday, March 15, at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, or on Saturday at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 am prior to services. Our family would like to extend our great appreciation and heartfelt thanks to her Doctors at Huntsman Cancer Institute as well as the wonderful staff at Huntsman at Home and Hospice, including the nurturing and caring nurses that helped her feel comfortable in her last days at home.
