OBITUARY Katherine Kay Jahnke May 4, 1931 – September 26, 2018 Katherine Kay Jahnke, known as Kay, ascended peacefully from a life well lived on earth to our Lord in heaven on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Kay never met a stranger and was dearly loved by all who knew her. She was born on May 4, 1931 to William and Katherine “Nanny” Sweatmon in Houston, Texas where she spent her entire life.

She left school in 1948 to marry firefighter Claude Jahnke, the love of her life, to work and start a family. She returned to night school and graduated with a GED from Sam Houston High school in 1950. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to four children.

She worked for 17 years with the Houston Police Department as a school crossing guard for Housman Elementary, on the corner of the street on which she lived. In addition, she completed citizen training to serve voluntarily with both the Houston Fire Department Citizen’s Academy and the Houston Citizen’s Police Academy. Kay is preceded in death by her husband Claude Devald Jahnke and their youngest son, Jay Paul Jahnke.

She is survived by her three children: daughter Karen (Rod) Johnson, son Jeff (Linda) Jahnke and daughter Marianne (Brad) Hays; her ten grandchildren Brandon, Ryan, Carrie, Kenny, Candace, Megan, Kyle, Clay, Jayne and Hunter; sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, October 1st at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Frwy, Houston, TX. 77079.

Her life will be celebrated at her funeral on October 2nd at 2:00 at the location above with interment to follow.
