RICHMOND, Ind. – Kathleen McDaniel, age 88, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, February 7, 2019, at her home. Born March 20, 1930, in Manchester, Kentucky, to Elbert and Mattie Johnson Sams, Kathleen lived in Richmond most of her life.

She retired from the Richmond State Hospital after 30 years of service. Kathleen was a member of First Southern Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and watching Dancing with the Stars.

Survivors include her sons, Elisha (Dianna) McDaniel of Richmond and Delbert (Judy) McDaniel of Greens Fork, Indiana; grandchildren, Jodi Gower, Candi (Mike) Whitehead, Kymberley (Mark) Saul, Justin (Erin) McDaniel, Kathy (Lee) Warren, Joseph McDaniel, Kim (Chuck) Turner, and Jeff Hernly; great-grandchildren, Kristina Warren, Elisha and Lexi Gower, Ashtynn and Jordan Saul, Justine, Riley, and Hollyn McDaniel, and Bailey Noble; great-great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Braxton; sisters, Wanda Chadwell of Hamilton, Ohio, and Lily Reed of Manchester, Kentucky; brother, George Sams of Manchester; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Elbert McDaniel, who died February 17, 2007; great-grandson, Sydney McDaniel; parents; and brothers, Leland and Eugene Sams. Visitation for Kathleen McDaniel will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.

Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Fletcher Callahan officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery’s Veteran’s Field of Honor. Memorial contributions may be made to: First Southern Missionary Baptist Church, 1400 Holsapple Road, Richmond, IN 47374.
