Kenneth Gordon Hilliard, 88, of Gig Harbor, Washington was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 22, 1929 to Stanley and Evelyn Hilliard and passed away September 10, 2018. Ken and his only sibling, Donald Hilliard, grew up in Elmwood Park, Illinois. In his youth, he was a member of the first AWANA club at Northside Gospel Center, sang in the boy’s White Shirt Brigade, graduated from Proviso Township High School and joined the US Army.

After serving in the army at Fort Lewis, Washington, Ken studied education at Pacific Lutheran University earning a bachelor’s degree and University of Puget Sound earning a master’s degree. He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, woodworking, model railroading and expressed his artistic ability in drawing, painting and pottery. In 1991, Ken retired after 20 years working for the Sumner School District as Director of Vocational Education.

He was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Bremerton, Washington, was active in the Rotary Club and the chairman of the Washington state AWANA board of directors. Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, M. Mozelle Hilliard, and his two step-daughters Virginia Louise Kenslow and Nancy Jeanne Beccue. He is survived by his brother Donald Hilliard, his two adopted daughters Melodie Ann Walton (Roger) and Sherilyn Kay Green (Brian), his grandchildren Jared Walton and his family, Joshua Walton and his family, David Green, Brianna Smith (Matthew) and family.

A private grave side service will be held on September 24, 2018 at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Gig Harbor, Washington.
