KEVIN J. BLAKELEY, age 26 of Valparaiso, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018 after a lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Kevin is survived by wife: Alyssa (nee Schroeder); parents: Richard and Wendy; brothers and best friends Kurt and Kyle; favorite and only sister: Kalyn; paternal grandparents: Richard and Janice Blakeley; maternal grandparents: Joseph and Gloria Weiss and Donelda and Ronald Smith; maternal uncle: Tom (Graci) Weiss; paternal aunts: Cindy (Dave) DeWitt and Denise Blakely; cousin: Zach DeWitt who was like a brother to him and held a special place in Kevin’s heart. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law: Arthur and Kathy Schroeder; sister -in-law and brother-in-law: Tori & Tyler Schroeder; and Alyssa’s Aunt Linda Carlson.

You all welcomed Kevin into your lives, as if he was your own family. Kevin also had numerous cousins, extended family members, and many friends: he loved every one of you. Kevin attended Central Elementary School, Benjamin Franklin Middle School, and graduated from Valparaiso High School, Class of 2011.

He played basketball at BF and also played for Victory Christian, where he once made 7 3-pointers in a row! Kevin loved music, all music, but his two favorite bands were “A Day to Remember” and “Of Mice and Men”. He went to as many concerts as his health allowed and sometimes when it didn’t.

An avid hockey fan, Kevin loved the Chicago Blackhawks and was able to sit in a seat on the “Glass” as one of his bucket list items. Thank you to all who helped Kevin fulfill his bucket list. He enjoyed every minute of it.

Kevin was a victim of a horrible disease called Cystic Fibrosis, but he did not let the disease define him. He lived with grace and above all, hope. He fought valiantly.

To bring awareness to CF and to honor Kevin, please wear something purple to his funeral service. A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Riley Children’s Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and to the staff at Unity Hospice. Thank you for making Kevin’s last months as pain free as possible.

Family and friends may gather on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Bartholomew Funeral Home (102 Monroe St., Valparaiso, IN). A Celebration of Kevin’s life will follow promptly at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jamie Constant officiating.
