Larry G. Bennett, 74, of Bettendorf, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave. , Rock Island.

Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Rock Island High School Baseball.

Larry was born on February 3, 1944 in Rock Island, the son of Cleo “Sam” and Geraldine (Bell) Bennett. He married Ruth Weiss on September 20, 1964 in Edgington, IL. Larry attended Rock Island High School and graduated from Rockridge High School.

Larry started working at the former Farmall Works in Rock Island in June 1963, and worked there until just before they closed in December 1985. He worked several other jobs after that, later retiring from Berry Bearing (now Motion Industries) in Moline, IL. Larry loved spending time with his family.

He was a loving husband and was a wonderful dad to his two daughters. Larry was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed many years watching his grandson play baseball. He will be remembered as an extraordinarily kind and generous person.

Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Bennett, Bettendorf; daughters, Melinda “Mindy” (Tom) Moye, Davenport and Wendy Kaye (Carlos) Cantu, Rock Island; grandchildren, Andres J. Bennett-Terronez and his fiancé, Sierra Bleyaert, Adriana Cantu, Aliyah Cantu, and Ella Cantu; brothers, Randy (Sue) Bennett, Davenport, Gary (Mary) Bennett, Moline, and Samuel (Peggy) Bennett, Milan; sister, Debbie Brown, Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jackie Bennett-Gosney and her husband, William “Pete” Gosney.
