Ina Mae Thornton, 100, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Generations at Rock Island. Cremation rites accorded. A memorial service will be 1 pm Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island.

Visitation will be an hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ina Mae was born in Sioux City, Iowa on December 7, 1918, a daughter of Chester and Marie Sanem Belknap. She married Robert J. Thornton Sr. on November 20, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1959.

Ina Mae worked for the former Jaydon Company, Rock Island, for about 10 years. She also spent time as a homemaker. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.

Ina Mae enjoyed bowling in her younger years. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Diane Van Fossen, Moline and Robert (Joann Fetes) Thornton, Rock Island; grandchildren, Michael Van Fossen, Ronnie (Pat) McGrath and Bobby (Marcia) Thornton; and great-grandsons, Gunner Thornton and Brock and Gibson McGrath. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Chester and Willard and sister, Marion.
