Jane L. Pauwels, 76, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am on Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.

Burial is at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 pm Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave. , Milan, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm.

Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Jane L. Knebel was born July 10, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa, a daughter of Paul and Catherine Walsh Knebel. She married James M. “Jim” Pauwels on July 11, 1964 in Riverside, Iowa.

She retired from the Rock Island Postal Employees Credit Union, where she served as secretary of its board of directors and previously worked at Blackhawk State Bank, Milan. Jane was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan and its Blue Cross Medical Mission Ladies. She had been active with the Milan Improvement Project (M.I.P.) for over 35 years and served as its president for six.

Jane was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Busy Bees Home Extension, Legion of Mary Auxiliary, the Willobee and Old Timer’s Card Clubs, Wednesday Afternoon Movie Group and the Box Car Stampers. She enjoyed making cards and loved her family. Survivors include her husband, Jim; children, Jean Vanderginst, East Moline and Jeff Pauwels, Rock Island; and granddaughters, Sydney and Samantha Pauwels.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Patrick Knebel. Online condolences may be left at wheelanpressly.com.
