Maxine Virginia Anderson, 86, of East Moline, formerly of Sherrard, Hendersonville, NC and Rock Island, IL, passed away December 4, 2018 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave. , Milan.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service, with an Eastern Star service at 10:45 am. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church in Sherrard or the Sherrard Fire Department.

Maxine was born in the mountains of Virginia to William Whittington and Lillie Irene Richards Whittington on January 24, 1932. Maxine met her husband Floyd O. “Andy” Anderson when he was stationed in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Navy. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2014.

Maxine was always busy. She babysat, took in ironings, worked at Art and Lee’s Lunch and worked as head cook in the cafeteria at Sherrard High School from where she retired. She enjoyed helping others, and working in her garden.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Lutheran Church. Those left to cherish her memory include, her children, Pat (Jim) Bowman and Bill (Dixie) Anderson; grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Tony) Garrett, Teresa (Terry) Johnston, Joleen Bowman, and John (Josey) Bowman; great grandchildren, Presley Garrett, Mary Grace and Lily Johnston, and Braxton Bowman; sister, Phyllis Jurney; sister-in-law, Barbara Sedwick; brother-in-law, Donald Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Elizabeth, Francis, and Cora; and brother, John.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hope Creek for the care of their mother and grandmother.
