Larry J Smart, 87, passed away peacefully on Sept 8, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Charlotte, for 65 years, and a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Born April 24, 1931, to Larry and Mary Smart.

Larry was a lifelong resident of Barberton and an active member of St. Augustine Parish. After graduating from Barberton High School he enlisted in the Naval Reserves. Larry, a hard worker his entire life, retired from F.W.Albrecht Grocery Co. (Acme) after more than 35 years.

Not content to just retire, he and Charlotte together owned and operated Skoops Ice Cream for 10 years. He was the go-to guy in the neighborhood, always ready to help anyone, even clearing the snow from the sidewalks of the entire block while he was able. He was an accomplished woodworker and spent many hours in his garage workshop crafting gifts for his family.

He enjoyed spending time at his mountain camp in Pennsylvania, the P&O Rod and Gun Club, which was the site of many wonderful family vacations and memories. Most of all, Larry was devoted to his family. We will miss him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Mary Smart and sister, JoAnn Burgner. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Charlotte; children Ann (Paul) Suboticki, Pat (Tom) Canning, Marilou (Ken) Lesniak, Larry Smart, Nora (Joe) Janicki, and Jim (Judi) Smart. He was blessed with 18 grandchildren- Bryan, Evan (Sarah) and Kyle Suboticki; Mike (Kristin), Dan and Jessica Green; Tim (Tiffany) Lesniak, Marilyn (Chris) Wyant, and Kenny Lesniak; Eli (Kim)Smart, Hannah Smart, Ali (Kevin) Bohr; Luke, Cole and Jodi Janicki; Amanda (Bryan) Vasaris, Alyssa (Dustin) Gillenwater and Jim Smart.

He also had 19 great-grandchildren – Nathan, Dylan, Jillian, Jackson, and Jordyn Suboticki; Katie, Charlotte, Taylor and Brennyn Green; Annabelle, John and Penelope Lesniak, Conner and Kyleigh Wyant; Calvin and Logan Smart, Llewyn Bohr, and Harrison and Hadley Gillenwater. Calling hours will be at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton, from 4-7 pm on Thursday, September 13, 2018. Funeral mass will be at St. Augustine Church, 204 6th St. NW, Barberton on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to St. Augustine Parish.
