Larry was born to Penny (Prentice) and Eve (Everna Holcomb) Ainslie at Atlanta, Nebraska on June 23, 1929 at the Holdrege Nebraska Hospital. The next ten years were spent, with his brother Robert, in the second floor of the Burlington Depot, where his dad was the station agent and telegraph operator.

In 1939 his dad was transferred to the Burlington station in Fort Morgan, CO. The family adjusted to him working nights and seven days a week. In 1946 Penny retired from the railroad and took a job in Greeley.

Larry finished his junior year of high school in Fort Morgan and then graduated his senior year from Greeley High School. The next year Larry attended CSU at Fort Collins, and then returned to Greeley to attend UNC. In 1950 his father took a job in Brush, CO managing a furniture business, where Larry also worked.

By the way of a double-blind date, Larry met the love of his life and wife to be, Shirley Elaine Peed. The government delayed their wedding plans by drafting Larry for two years and sending him to Korea. Upon his return, they were married in the old Methodist Church in Brush on May 10, 1953.

Their son Michael Prentice Ainslie was born at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Hospital. Shortly thereafter, Larry sold his interest in the furniture business and the family moved to Denver, where Larry was employed by Public Service Company of Colorado. Their daughter, Lynne Allison, was born at St. Anthony’s Central Hospital in Denver.

After 29 years with Public Service Company as Senior Right of Way Agent, Larry had a chance for early retirement. They moved back to Brush in October 1986. Larry was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, Charter member of the Optimist Club of Fort Morgan and Brush, worked in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and was a member of the American Right of Way Association.

Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and his parents and Brother. He is survived by his son Mike, daughter-in-law Mary; Granddaughter Katie; Daughter Lynne Miller; together with several nieces and nephews.
