Obituary of Larry Hackworth Larry Thomas Hackworth, 66, a devoted follower of Christ, a beloved husband, father, brother, and special friend to many, departed from this world and entered into the presence of Jesus on November 11, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born on March 1, 1952 in Norfolk, VA. He grew up in Chesapeake, VA and while in high school received a scholarship to attend Old Dominion University.
He graduated with a degree in chemistry and moved to North Carolina in 1975 to take a job in his field at the Research Triangle Institute. He married Judy Hackworth in May of 1975 which began a wonderful journey lasting 43 years. In 1984 he founded (and served as President of) an environmental monitoring company with his wife and 2 colleagues.
He became a dad in 1994—a role in which he excelled and greatly cherished. Larry was a member of several churches in the Durham area and was an ordained deacon and elder. He was a youth leader, audio visual technician, children’s church leader and also served on several church setup crews.
He was dedicated to his family and a man of integrity. He always put his family and others before himself. He enjoyed life and loved sharing whatever he had with anyone in need.
He was a skilled photographer, woodworker and cook. He also loved to research family history. He joyfully supported his church with prayer, tithes and offerings and supported many other ministries as well.
He departed this world with the songs and name of Jesus on his heart. He faced his last days, which were difficult, with a sweet spirit and unusual courage –his wife at his side during those final moments. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed until the day we see him again on heaven’s shore.
