Lataine Drummond Thyng, 93, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018. She was born in Waycross, GA on November 4, 1924. A 1941 graduate of Alma High School, she completed secretarial school in 1943 and began her career with the American Red Cross at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

There she met her husband, Herbert Albee Thyng. They moved to Lexington, Massachusetts and had two sons, Scott and Slade. Upon her retirement from Millipore Corporation in 1987, she moved back to Alma.

She was dedicated to her church and volunteered at the Alma Historical Society and local blood bank. Surviving family members include: son, Scott Drummond Thyng; granddaughter, Karen (Thyng) Gavenda; grandson, Jeffrey Scott Thyng; beloved nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 201 N. Church Street, Alma.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church or to the Alma Historical Society, 406 Mercer St, Alma.
