Laura (Robinson) Dozier was born November 30, 1921 in Pratt City, Alabama (eight miles outside of Birmingham), the fourth child of Bennie (Lovejoy) Robinson and Rosia Lee (Head) Robinson. Laura was raised in Birmingham, Alabama by her Grandparents Reese and Laura Lovejoy. At the age of eight, she joined her Grandparents church, Mount Mariah A.M.E Church, where she sang in the Young People’s Choir.

Laura attended Patterson Elementary School, Zion City Junior High School, and Parker High School. After graduating from Parker High School, she attended Smith & Gaston Business College in Birmingham, Alabama. Coming to Cleveland, Ohio in February 1943, she attended Gladstone Baptist Church and later joined Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, under the Rev.

Eugene Ward. She was a member of the Young People’s Choir under the direction of Mrs. Rosette Myers. In 1946, Laura met James Dozier Jr. and on April 24, 1948, they were married and she moved to Berea, Ohio.

From this union three sons were born; Gerald (deceased), Lamont Leland, and Leon Rene. She joined First Baptist Church under Rev. C. Bohannon where her husband was already a member.

Laura was a member of the Senior Choir, Secretary & Treasurer of the Senior Choir, and a Sunday School Teacher. Her beloved husband passed away April 3, 2006. On April 3, 1976, she joined People’s Community Church under Rev.

Leroy McCreary. She served as Usher, Choir member, member on the Baptismal Committee, Sunday School teacher, and Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School. In 1984 she was a Trustee and church treasurer for 8 months, after which she became ill and resigned.

On February 24, 2002, she received her Certificate of Recognition as the People’s Community Church Mother, and became affectionately known as Mother Dozier. Mother Dozier leaves in God’s care two sons; Lamont Leland (Delores) and Leon Rene (Cathy), Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, One sister; Rosie P. Gibson, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins, and a host of friends. Friends may call on Saturday June 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Peoples Community Church 631 N. Rocky River Dr. Berea, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. following calling hour.

Interment will be at the Woodvale Cemetery in Middleburg Heights, Ohio.
