St. Johnsville – LaVerne E. (Lew) Weaver, 96 a long time St. Johnsville resident passed away peacefully on Thursday May 17, 2018 at the Palatine Nursing Home. He was born March 31, 1922 at the family homestead on Monroe St., St. Johnsville the son of the late William and Edna (Miles) Weaver and was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1940. His marriage to Florence Shubert took place on June 21, 1943 in Mississippi.

The couple shared a blessed union of 71 years until the passing of Florence on June 16, 2014. Mr. Weaver was a United States Navy veteran during World War II. He was honorably discharges on October 5, 1945 with the rank of Machinist’s Mate, Second Class.

Until his retirement, Lew was employed with the Maintenance Department of the St. Johnsville Central School District. Mr. Weaver was a member of the Edward J Morris American Legion, Post # 168, St Johnsville, St. Johnsville Lodge #611 F&AM and St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department. A man dedicated to his family, Lew’s life was centered around his loved ones.

He especially enjoyed the quality time he spent with his grandchildren. In his earlier years, Lew was an active outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his leisure he was an avid bowler, and loyal Yankee fan.

Survivors include three devoted daughters, Eleanor Weaver of St. Johnsville, Joanne Meier and her husband William of St. Johnsville, and Joyce Zbikowski ; his loving grandchildren, Edward Meier of St Johnsville NY, and Jack Miller and his wife Angela of Palatine Bridge NY; and several nieces and nephews including Kermit Weaver, Jr., Deborah Sidney and Roger Weaver. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Kermit Weaver Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 518-568-7040. Burial will follow at St. Johnsville Cemetery with full military honors accorded.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday May 23, 2018 from 11:00 am until the time of the services. All memorial contributions may be made to either the Edward J. Morris American Legion, Post # 186, St. Johnsville Lodge # 611 F& AM or to the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The family would also like to thank the Palatine Nursing Home in Palatine Bridge NY for the excellent care they gave their father and grandfather.
