Lavorne’s Obituary Lavorne “Von” Ledora Jackson Jones was the youngest of (2) two children born to the late Henry Jackson and late Henrietta (Lowe) Jackson on November 23, 1946 in Renova, Mississippi. “Lavon and “Von” as she was affectionately known by family and friends respectively, passed on peacefully to claim her crown and her rightful place in God’s Heavenly Kingdom, on Saturday morning, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland, MS. Lavorne received her wings with her 4 children and granddaughter, LaToya by her side as she transcended from her earthly home to her eternal home.

She is now resting from her labors conducted here on earth. Lavorne was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Henrietta, her brother, Henry Floyd Jackson, an aunt, Sloan Williams, and a grandson, Antwan Jackson. Lavorne received and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and received her early teaching at Calvary M. B. Church in Renova, Mississippi, where she remained a member for years.

She later joined the First Baptist Church of Merigold on December 9, 2001 under the leadership of Pastor Bobby L. Williams. Sister Lavorne remained a faithful and dedicated member of First Baptist Church and was always in attendance until her health would no longer allow her to worship in the assembly of the congregation. She continued her worship and praise and received many prayers, visits, and blessings from Pastor Williams and First Lady Dortha Williams, church members, family, and friends, both at home and in the hospital.

She received much love and attention, care, and devotion during her earthly tenure. She received her early education in the schools in Memphis and Cleveland. She married William Jones, Sr. in Renova, MS and to that union (7) children were born, three died during infancy.

However, four children had the greatest pleasure to have one of the most caring and loving mothers whom was created to raise and guide them: Everlean Jackson, Eliza (James) Jackson-Williams, Sharon Jones, and William Jones, Jr. were blessed with a mother who went up and beyond the call of duty to ensure that they had a wonderful life. She made being a single (divorced) parent look easy, even though we knew it was a struggle. She did whatever she had to do to care and provide for her children.

She took the charge to give parenting serious and did everything in her power to give her children and grandchildren the best of her. She mothered her children until the end. Von parents instilled in her early years the importance of hard work.

Her parents were one of the early Black farmers in the Renova community. Her grandmother served as a midwife in the community and instilling in her compassion and empathy for others. Lavorne instilled those same traits and showed her children and grandchildren the path of hard work.

Von worked at Misceramic Tile, Inc. from 1970-1976 as a production worker. She worked as a laundry press operator for Delta State University from 1964 to 1990. She worked faithful and her first day missing from work was when her first grandchild, LaToya was born.

She retired after 26 years on a Friday and was working for Tyson Foods on Monday. She worked at John F. Kennedy High School in Mound Bayou, Mississippi as a custodial worker for several years. She worked for Tyson Foods from the opening day (1990) to the closing day of the facility in 2001.

After Tyson Foods closed, she returned to Delta State University Laundry and worked for several more years before retiring again in 2010. She later worked the past years as a part-time sitter and provided cleaning services for several clients until her health failed. She not only taught her children about hard work but showed them by example.

Her work life afforded her the opportunity to meet and impact the lives of many. Meeting and greeting new people gave her the greatest pleasure.
