Lawrence’s Obituary Lawrence E. “Butch” Burd, Jr., 81, of Latrobe, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Born February 6, 1938 in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Lawrence E. Burd, Sr. and Grace (Karasack) Burd. Butch earned his Bachelor’s degree from Saint Vincent College and went on to earn his Master’s in Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to his retirement, Butch was a Biology teacher at Derry Area Senior High School for 31 years. Throughout his time at Derry, he had coached football and track, and oversaw set construction for stage performances, a position he kept for several years even after his retirement. He was a longtime adult leader and member of the Troop committee for Boy Scouts Troop No.

309 and his hobbies included woodworking and camping. Butch is survived by his wife, Janet A. (Sprock) Burd of Latrobe; three sons, Lt. Col.

Todd Burd, USAF Ret. , and his wife Becky, of Derry, Lance E. Burd, and his wife Rita, of Fairfield, PA, and Layne A. Burd, and his wife Kathy, of Latrobe; four grandchildren, Emily, Keegan, Kenzie, and Kelly Burd; two brothers, Francis C. Burd, and his wife Lorraine, of Derry and Mark Burd, and his wife Margaret, of Derry; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitations.
