Cumberland – Lawrence Sayegh (Larry Sayco), 86, died on January 25, 2019, at the Philip Hulitar Center, Providence. Born and raised in Central Falls, a son of the late Louis and Alma (Gora) Sayegh, he had lived in Cumberland for many years. Larry was always a showman.

He was also fascinated by Yo-Yo’s. In 1948 he had his first win in a Yo-Yo competition at the Pawtucket Boys Club. After that, he and his brother, Leroy entered a contest at the Capitol Theatre in Pawtucket, where is was awarded first place and his brother second place, earning them a bicycle and a radio, respectively.

By 1951 he was a demonstrator for Duncan Yo-Yo. In the 1950’s he was performing and traveling around the world to promote Duncan Yo-Yos. During that period he also became a World Champion.

Later, Larry started his own company making Yo-Yos branded “Sayco”. He became known as Larry Sayco. He was a one man band, manufacturing, demonstrating, doing parties (still a showman, even in his 70’s), and of course, selling.

Two of his books were published: “The Ultimate Yo-Yo Book” in 1998, and, along with Brian Floca, “Another Ultimate Yo-Yo Book: More Great Tricks and Tips! ” in 2000. They are still available online today from Amazon, used book stores and collectors.

He is survived by his sisters, Lorice Salem of West Palm, Florida, and Leala Read of Cumberland; and his brother, Leroy Sayegh of Central Falls. His funeral service will be held Monday, February 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family in St. Basil’s Cemetery, Cumberland.
