After a valiant 1 ½ year fight against renal cancer, he was surrounded by family when he was joyfully reunited with his father, Robert Warnick, and other family members and friends who were called home before him. Left to treasure priceless memories with Lee are his mother, Beth Warnick of Oregon; loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Kim Ellen Warnick; daughter, Christine (Jeremiah) Smith of Maryland; daughter, Kathleen (Gary) James of Virginia; daughter, Penny (Daniel) Smith of California; daughter, Shelly (Charles) Hockett of Virginia; grandchildren, Rebekah, Samantha, Danielle (James); Lydia, Clara, Natalie (Smith); Sarah, Lee, James (Smith); Lucas (Hockett) and an 11th grandchild on the way; brother, David (Linnie) Warnick of Arizona; sister, Anne (Lynn) Mortenson of Oregon; brother, Mark (Sherri) Warnick of Texas; and sister Gail (Doran) Gillie of Utah.
Lee was born to parents Robert Warnick and Beth Martin on September 27, 1951 in Fort Riley, Kansas. Lee married Kim Ellen Pyron in Manti, Utah in 1973. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, he relocated to Richmond, Virginia where he worked for Dominion Energy (fka VEPCO and Dominion Virginia Power) for 34 happy and fruitful years.
He obtained a second Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. After retiring from Dominion Energy in 2010, he worked for Appendix R Solutions until the time of his diagnosis in August 2017. In his early years, as the oldest of five children, he developed a kind, loving, and adventurous spirit.
In 1965 he earned his Eagle Scout award. He later spent almost two decades as a Scoutmaster and Varsity Coach, sharing his passion for the outdoors with the Boy Scouts of America. Lee inherited his mother’s love of music and sang in the Richmond Mormon Chorale.
He was a faithful servant of the Lord as a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In his own words, Lee believed the keys to successful living are “Frugality, Faith, Cheerfulness, Doing your Best, Gratefulness, Optimism, Goals, Love of Family, and Fitness”. As a remarkable son, brother, father, grandfather, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend he leaves behind a legacy of great love.
The family will greet friends at the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St, Glen Allen 23060, 7 to 9pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019. A celebration of life will be held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 2500 Pump Road, Henrico 23233 at 11:30am Friday, January 11, 2019. Burial will follow this service in Hollywood Cemetery.
