Leo Patrick Glynn 82, of Summerfield, Kansas passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Leo was born on June 2nd, 1935 to Charles William and Reva (Mitchell) Glynn at home on the family farm near Summerfield, KS. He was the youngest of four children.
One of his favorite stories to tell was about the day Aunt Nell and Uncle Pat took him to the St. Bridget Church to be baptized. Father Leo Ahern asked what name his parents chose for him and Uncle Pat told him that they hadn’t said. So Father Ahern said his first name will be Leo and Uncle Pat said his second name will be Patrick.
Leo grew up on the family farm and attended Lone Star Country School through the 8th grade and Summerfield High School graduating in 1953. Leo served in the National Guard for 7 years. Leo always loved machinery and after high school began operating a bulldozer for Pawnee County, which he did for several years.
Leo then went on to work for Elmer Rinne before purchasing his own bulldozer in 1959. He continued his own business for 46 years and owned and operated ten different bulldozers. With each model the improvements helped him continue to love his chosen profession and loyal customers.
You could often find him on the jobsite at the end of the day having a beer with the current landowner/friend! On November 30th, 1957 Leo married Doris Parli at the Holy Family Church in Summerfield, KS. To this union four children were born.
Devin, Julie, Reva and Tina. Through 60 years of marriage Leo and Doris would grow a successful business, raise 4 children and maintain a great many wonderful friendships, through social activities and traveling. LICA (Land Improvement Contractors Association) conventions were always an exciting annual event.
Leo served as secretary/treasurer of the St. Bridget Historical Society/Cemetery which was very important to him. After retiring Leo enjoyed traveling with Doris and evening happy hours, painting forever memories from the past onto sawblades, being creative with old barn board, gardening, and spending time with his beloved dog “Annie”. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris of Summerfield, KS, daughters, Julie (Randy) Kennell, Lincoln, NE, Reva (Todd) Hunzeker, Omaha, NE; Tina (Rock) Herr, Humboldt, NE, grandchildren, Chelsea (Bryan) Marine, Dylan Kennell, Alexandra Kennell, Brianna (Fiance, Ethan Anliker) Hunzeker, Clarissa Hunzeker, Miranda Hunzeker, Erika Hunzeker, Jacob Herr, Elijah Herr, and Austin Herr, great grandchildren, Cadence Marine, Leo Marine, and Eloise Marine, sister, Helen (Jack) Transue, Falls Church, VA, and sister in law Rita Glynn, Pawnee City, NE, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, son, Devin, brother, Jay, and sister Peggy. Leo never did anything “halfway” and his stories, advice, ability to fix anything, and most of all John Wayne impersonation will be missed by his friends and family. His underlined favorite quote from “The Duke”.
