Leonard Keeling December 11, 1940 – April 30, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Leonard Earl Keeling was born December 11, 1940 in Mabank, Texas to Luther Earl Keeling and Cloey Martha Dufur Keeling. He passed away April 30, 2019 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 19 days. Leonard grew up in the 4 Corners area of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona and has hunted wildlife since he could hold a gun.

At the age of 15 he began working in a coal mine in Colorado. Leonard later enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a tender pilot transporting troops to and from the ship in southeast Asia. After his discharge he returned stateside where he began his family and started a career as a telecommunications lineman.

Leonard was a loyal employee and remained with the same company for 25 years. He was married to Dixie Keeling on March 28, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After their marriage they lived in Greeley, Colorado before moving to Elk City, Oklahoma where he and Dixie retired.

Leonard was the type of man that worked extremely hard, self reliant and took pride in the people and accomplishments in his life. He also enjoyed hunting, flying remote control airplanes, old cars and taking care of his dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents and 1 son, Steven Keeling.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie, of the home; 2 sons, David Keeling, Ft. Collins, CO and James Keeling Cottage Grove, MN; 6 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Whinery Funeral Service.
