A Mass of Christian Burial for Leroy W. Yeggy, 92, of Riverside will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond, with Father David Brownfield and Deacon Derick Cranston officiating. His body will be cremated following the mass and burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church where the family will greet friends from 4 – 7PM with a Rosary at 3:30PM and prayer service at 3:45PM.

A memorial fund has been established for the family’s choice. Leroy Yeggy died Friday, May 4, 2018 at his home in rural Riverside, surrounded by family. The Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leroy William Yeggy was born January 29, 1926 in rural Riverside, the son of William and Esther (Cline) Yeggy. He attended rural school and joined the United States Air Force, serving his country during World War II. On November 22, 1948 Leroy was united in marriage to Doris Thomann at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside.

Leroy was a life long farmer, working long hours from sunrise to sunset. He was dedicated to conservation, and a pioneer and leader in the use of soil conserving practices. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Richmond Am-Vet Post #107, Washington County Pork Producers, Washington County Farm Bureau, and the Knights of Columbus.

Leroy loved farming, enjoyed singing and playing his guitar, joining in neighborhood get togethers, spending time with his grandchildren, and taking trips to Branson and Lake of the Ozarks. Survivors include his wife Doris of Riverside, four children: Ann Yeggy of Riverside, Warren (Julie) Yeggy of Kalona, Joan (John) Sojka of Riverside, Mark (Randi) Yeggy of Kalona; nine grandchildren: Andrea, Ryan, Taylor and Caitlin Yeggy, Seth (Mary) and Nadia Sojka, and Travis, Lucas (Tami) and Journey Yeggy; two great grandchildren: Aryia Yeggy and D.D. Sojka and one sister Alberta Kloos of Iowa City and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Leroy in death were his parents, one brother Robert Yeggy, a sister Loretta Kral and his beloved grandson Jim.
