Thomson – Mr. Lewis “Louie”Alfred Harbeson, Jr. passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in Augusta, Georgia with his family by his side. A Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Curtis Funeral Home with the Rev. Larron Pilgrim officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. He was born November 10, 1939 to Lewis A. Harbeson, Sr. and Vernell Kizer Harbeson in St. George, South Carolina. Lewis’ family moved to Thomson in 1953.

He attended Thomson High School, graduating in 1957, playing football, basketball and baseball. He later earned an Associate Degree in Architectural Engineering from Southern Technical Institute. Lewis was an electrical contractor and master plumber.

Lewis loved his family along with work, eating, fishing, coffee and above all talking and giving his opinion on everything. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Jan S. Harbeson; brother, Robert “Ned” Harbeson (Claire), Thomson; three children, Mitchell Harbeson (Shannon), Fayetteville, Gregory Harbeson (Amy), Washington, and Jennifer Foster (Steve), Thomson; four grandchildren, Tyler Harbeson, Nickolas Harbeson, Alice Harbeson, and Madyson Foster; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews knowing him affectionately as Poppy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Foster, Lee Hutto, Lawton Harbeson, Ben Harbeson and Matt Stevenson. Friends may call at the Curtis Funeral Home. Curtis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
