Lois’ Obituary Lois Adelle Hagen Hongslo was born July 10, 1933 in Lincoln County, South Dakota to Arlo and Alice (Lundstrom) Hagen. She died May 27, 2019 at the Alcester Care & Rehab Center at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 17 days. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school and graduated from Alcester High School in 1951.

Lois attended General Beadle Teachers College in Madison, SD and taught country school. She married Merle Hongslo on February 11, 1955; together they raised their four children in Alcester. Lois worked as a teacher’s aid in the Alcester Elementary School until her retirement in the spring of 1986.

She and Merle enjoyed several winters in Arizona. Merle died in March of 2003. Lois will be remembered by her family as a “fan”.

She was her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s greatest fan at their events as they were growing up. She was also a loyal Minnesota Twins baseball fan. She enjoyed a daily crossword puzzle and had a sharp memory for all family facts.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons, Kent (Carolyn) Hongslo of Alcester, Rick (Glenda) Hongslo of Corsica and Randy (Kathy) Hongslo of Vermillion; her daughter, Lori (Brian ) Hofer of Alcester; 11 grandchildren, Christopher (Heather) Hongslo, Joshua (Wendy) Hofer, Kyla (Jared) Schmidt, Adam Hofer, Tyler (Jessica) Juhnke, Melissa (Jared) Anderson, Taya (Gaven) Davis, Kara (David) Horner, Bradee (Jared) Coit, Ryan (fiancé Kylee) Hongslo and Avery Hongslo; 24 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Carol (Orville) Sorlie of Hudson, Karen (Norman) Erickson of Beresford, Vivian (Greg) Schumacher of Alcester and Sherry Hebert of Aurora, CO; and her sister-in-law, Connie Hagen of Sioux Falls. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Arlo and Alice Hagen; husband of 48 years, Merle; brother, Vern Hagen; sister, Marilyn Almos; two infant sisters, Arlene and Joyce Hagen; and a brother-in-law, David Hebert. Funeral services will be 2:30PM Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester.

Visitation will be 4-8PM Wednesday, May 29th at the church with the family present from 6-8PM.
