Obituary for Lois Giffin Gates Lois Giffin Gates, age 96, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018, in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was born May 12, 1922, and raised in San Francisco, California. While she was working at the Presidio in San Francisco, mutual friends set her up for a blind date with her to be husband, George Gates, of Medford, Oregon.

They wed in Medford on September 20, 1948. George contracted polio in 1952, Lois then took over the family business, Gates Furniture. She was involved in the business for the next fifty years.

She loved golf and did so until she was 90. Another interest was her passion for travel, crossing the globe from China to Kenya…Australia to Russia…India to Polynesia and more. She also was active in her community receiving the Four-way Foundation Community Service Award.

She was also very involved with scholarship awarding at RCC. She is survived by her two sons, Gary and Giff Gates; daughters-in-law, Sharon and Chris Gates; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
