Lois Mary Peter, age 92, passed away March 12, 2019 at Maple Lake Assisted Living in Paw Paw with her family at her side. Lois was born June 8, 1926 in White Rock, South Dakota, the daughter of Emery and Velva (Kiefer) Germaine. She married Wayne Harvey Peter on November 21, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving to Paw Paw.
After raising her family and retiring from the Paw Paw Plating company, Lois and Harvey enjoyed traveling, camping, dancing and other social activities, and wintered in Harlingen Texas. While in Harlingen, Lois was a mentor for a school program, HOSTS, for 30 years, helping students build reading skills. After Harvey’s passing in 1986, Lois later met Bill Timm and they continued square dancing and traveling until his passing in 2007.
She had the opportunity to visit Mexico, Egypt, where she rode a camel, Spain, Hawaii, the Panama Canal and numerous other locations. Lois loved being with her family and was eager to go anywhere at the drop of a hat. Her children and grandchildren were the joys of her life and they affectionately referred to her as “Grandma Goose”.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Jenny Marie Peter, husband Wayne Harvey Peter, son Thomas Peter, her special friend William Timm, half-sister Myrna Coskey and half-brother Merlin Germaine. She is survived by her daughters Sandy (Al) Kretsinger, Carol (Tim) Campbell and Barbara (Bernie) Strehlow. Sons Jack Peter, William (Diane) Peter, Wayne Jr. (Jerri Lou) Peter and Mickey (Diane) Peter.
Her half-sisters Susan Millek and Patricia Lamphear and half-brothers Terrance and Daniel Germaine. Lois is also survived by her 21 grandchildren: Lisa Marie (Cliff) Eubank, Michael (Jolee) Kretsinger, Deborah Ann (Michael) Schmidt and Daniel (Lisa) Kretsinger; Gina (John) Hayes and Matthew (Jenny) Campbell; Kelly Peters, JeNae Peter and Mary Peter; Laurie Peter and Jenna (Matt) Brush; Eric (Shannon) Laskovy, Joshua (Kelli) Peter and Lauren (Keith) Leighton; Wayne (Sharon) Peter and Ginger Peter; Katlin Peter and Chelsea (Ryan) Chambers; Jason Jach and Andrew Jach. 30 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Adams Funeral Home in Paw Paw. Services will be held at Adams Funeral Home on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11:00 am with Reverend Katie Hartwell officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
