Lois Tyson Cleaton, formally of Ayden, passed away on May 5, 2019 at the age of 89. She was born on June 12, 1929 in Martin County, NC. She grew up in Oak City with a strong Christian family along with her four brother and two sisters that have all passed away along with her parents.
While living in Oak City she met and married the love of her life Harry Cleaton who passed away in 1993. They moved to Kinston right after they got married and began raising a family. While living in Kinston they had three sons.
In 1957they moved their family to Ayden due to a job transfer. Danny was the first born who is married to Mary Ann. Mike was born about two years later and is married to Jeannie.
Four years after Mike came Ken who is married to Debra. From these unions came six grand children and nine great grand children. Lois spent most of her early married years as a house wife raising her children.
When her kids got a little older she worked at Planters Bank for a while and at the Pitt County Board of Education for a time. She was very proud of her family and loved them deeply. Her Christian faith and positive attitude carried her through many trials ant tribulations in life.
When her parents became disabled and unable to live by themselves she took them into her home and became their caregiver. She beat breast cancer in her mid 30″s and suffered from asthma and COPD for many years, but she was always strong and determined not to let it get her down. Anyone who knew her knows that she had a habit of always showing up late to family events and appointments.
This was kind of a running joke for the family and they would sometimes take odds on what time she would show up. It never bothered her though, because she was fiercely independent and was always determined to do things her way. Once she showed up for a family event she was always the life of the party because she loved her family so much.
She was also an impeccable dresser. Whenever she was out and about her clothes, hair, and make-up had to be perfect. One of the joys of her life was shopping and finding a bargain.
In her younger years she would hit the yard sales every Saturday looking for the best deals. Later on she discovered the shopping channels on TV and would stay up late at night in search of the good deals. On May 5, 2019 at around 6:00 am she finally found the ultimate bargain.
She met her Lord and Savior who guided through her life on earth and is with her in heaven today. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 6 :00pm at Farmer Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
