She was born January 16, 1939 in Blen, Colorado. Her older brother and sister and parents soon moved to Baca County, North of Springfield, Colorado.

Two younger sisters soon joined the family. She attended a one room school for the primary grades and then Margaret and the children moved to a home in Springfield so they could attend school there and further their education. During her 3rd grade year she was diagnosed with Rheumatic Fever and had to spend 11 months flat on her back in bed.

For her 10th birthday her daddy bought her a bicycle. She was not allowed to ride it for almost a year. This was to help encourage her to be good and get well.

She spent lots of days fishing in nearby Two Buttes Lake, playing along the banks, milking cows, riding horses and just being a kid. She loved to tag along with Vernon and Vera who were older, also helping her dad where ever he was when she could escape the household chores. She learned to milk cows, gather the cattle, gather eggs and many other house hold chores.

Lola Mae married William Josephus Dixon, better known as Joe, in Clayton, NM on November 15, 1955. They made their home on the Dixon Ranch south of Campo for 58 years. Lola milked cows, helped with the dairy, gathered and worked cattle, grew a huge garden and canned the extra to feed her family.

She loved growing flowers and always had a beautiful yard. Her kids remember coming home from school and smelling bread baking and the race was on to get to the first taste. Lola spent many years cooking for Broom Corn hands and working at the Gas A Hol Plant, but her favorite job was Brandt’s Garden Center each spring.

She loved tending the tiny tender plants, watching them grow and selling them to their new owners. Upon Gunther’s death the green house closed and she did not work out of the home after that, but she continued to help Joe on the Ranch. She adored her grandchildren, Nick, Daisy, Renee, Chasity and Brady.

When her first grandchild Nick was born, it was like her life began over again, she enjoyed him fully and loved to have him and his sister Daisy ride home with her after work and come back the next morning. Most every Sunday was spent at Gramma and Pa’s house. Lola was thrilled when great grandchildren started arriving!

She loved every minute spent spoiling them rotten. Lola’s health had been deteriorating for several years but she was still able to have several adventures. In 2016, she and Joe were able to attend Nick and Cassie’s wedding and got to visit their home, Nick’s pecan farm and the Washita Mountains.

In 2017, Jody took Joe and Lola on their dream trip to Yellowstone National Park, getting to see many states and visiting family along the way. Lola got to see Joe take his first carousel ride in Burlington, Colorado. Lola got her “town house” in 2014.

She was loved sitting in her sun room watching the antics of the squirrels and birds in the yard. Lola went to her heavenly home May 15, 2019, at Coon Memorial Home in Dalhart, Texas. Graveside services will be Saturday, May 18th, 10 am MST, at Campo Cemetery, Campo, Colorado She leaves to gleam in her memory her husband Joe, children Johnie of Springfield Co, Jody and Fred Boise City, Jess and Barbara Dixon, Boise City.

5 grandchildren, Nick and Cassie Risley, Lone Wolf OK, Renee Griggat, Springfield, Co, Daisy and Robert Farr, Beaver OK, Brady Dixon, Oklahoma City, OK, Chasity and Joe Carson, Springfield, Co. 8 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, her close friends, Belva Chick and Lily Merkley and two sisters Janet and Margaret.
