Loretta McMillian Campbell was born in Winston-Salem, NC on August 13, 1935 to the late Gertrude Hanes and George W. McMillian. She made her transition from this world on May 3, 2019. Loretta is preceded in death by her husband James H. Campbell, son James E. Campbell (Gwen) and sister Georgia Gregory.

She was a graduate of Atkins High School, Star Business School and Winston-Salem Teacher’s College; now Winston-Salem State University. Loretta did post-graduate studies at several institutions; including A&T University and UNC at Greensboro. She was a former teacher, who taught in Virginia, Massachusetts and several N.C. towns before becoming a day care director.

Later, she combined her love for children with her love for books and reading and became the children’s librarian at the Davie County Public Library, from which she retired. Being a librarian was her most fulfilling job, next to being a mother. Loretta adored animals and young children and was a devoted, caring Wife, Mother, Grandmother and friend who put others wants and needs before her own.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and belonged to the Assisi Bunch. She belonged to several civic organizations and served on several civic committees in Forsyth and Davie counties. Loretta designed and sold her all occasion greeting cards for several years.

She also sold her original art prints done in mixed media and computer graphics, along with some books of original poetry under her popular Lockheart logo. She loved angels and had an extensive angel collection. A hidden angel could be found in each of her art prints.

She is survived by four sons, William H. Lynch of the home, Curtis Campbell of High Point, Ronald D. Campbell of Winston-Salem and Henry Michael Campbell (Yvette) of Jonesville, NC, daughters Tahnya Bowser of Bowie, MD and Stefani Lynch of Winston-Salem, nineteen grandchildren, two of whom she raised from infancy; Dr. Iyam Lynch (Olivia) and Isham “Ike” Lynch, sixteen great-grandchildren, three grand-nieces, two sisters-in-law, and several other relatives and friends. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 862 Yadkinville Road, Mocksville, NC 27028. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery.

A family visitation will be held on Sunday, May 12 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the Davie Funeral Service Chapel, 416 Valley Road, Mocksville, NC 27028. Davie Funeral Service is honored to serve the family. Condolences may be left at daviefuneralservice.com.
