Louis A. Boulmetis, 66, born in Baltimore, Maryland, died on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Lou was the pride and joy of his late parents Thomas and Georgia R. Boulmetis. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Judy Boulmetis of Littlestown, Pa.

, cousins Alexanne, Annette and Maria, a niece Amy and two nephews Eric and Demetrios. Lou has a long list of accomplishments that ranged from writing, gardening, finishing furniture and being a history buff to name a few. His fondest memory was seeing the Rolling Stones in Baltimore with his friends.

After he graduated from Poly Tech in Baltimore in 1969, Lou went to and graduated from University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) 1970-1975 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology, he then attended the University of Baltimore School of Business from 1982 – 1986 and earned a Master of Science (M.S.), Business Administration and Management and Lou was a Master Gardener as well. In 1983, Lou was a regional manager for the General Mills Corporation and managing 3 restaurants. In January of 1985 after the death of his grandfather who he was named after, and who had jumped ship in Baltimore during World War I as a 15-year-old cabin boy on a Greek freighter and spent his days cleaning hats to make a living.

He eventually opened his own hat shop and cleaners, where Lou had helped him over the years, picking up the trade on during occasional afternoons of his childhood. Lou took over the business and the Hippodrome Hatters was reborn. Lou ran every aspect of the operation in it with his wife Judy until they retired and closed up the shop in 2015.

Together Lou and Judy served more than 17 years on several boards and committees in Baltimore City, including the Market Center Merchant’s Association and the Legislative Committee for the Maryland Retailer’s Association. And if that wasn’t enough to do, Lou also wrote a column in several newspapers for 16 years with a weekly circulation exceeding 80,000 about another one of his passions, gardening, it was called, In the Garden with “Mr. Bee”. Lou was an active member of St. James the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church of Westminster, Maryland.

To be sure heaven will have a very busy soul to keep track of, if his time here on earth is any indication of what he could accomplish and get into. But hopefully he will find some time to relax and rest in peace. A Eulogy and Orthodox funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 37 S. Cranberry Road, Westminster, Md.

21157, with Father David Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow at the Westminster Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the church.
