Louis Joseph Kirsch, age 99, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 21. 2019. Born and raised in Carneys Point, NJ, he was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Dunne) Kirsch.

He enlisted in the Navy after graduating from “ReHi”, class of 1938. While serving on the U.S.S. Albemarle, he was probably one of the few remaining crew members who witnessed the testing of the atomic bomb in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. After eight years of Navy life, Louis received an honorable discharge, returned to Carney’s Point, and was employed by the Dupont Chambers Works, Petroleum Laboratory Dept.

as a technician. He retired with 43 years service in 1982. Louis is survived by his wife of 62 years Edith (Drudi) Kirsch, his sons Kenneth and Michael Kirsch, and his grandchildren Kevin and Kira Kirsch.

His siblings, Harry Kirsch, Margaret (Clements) Chance, and Elizabeth Pancoast predeceased him. Louis was a member of the Servicemen’s Memorial Association and VFW. A memorial service and internment will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 26 2019 at the Veterans Cemetery, 719 Route 45, Pilesgrove, NJ 08098.
