Obituary for Louis Meiners Louis Pierre Meiners, M.D., J.D., age 73, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018. Louis is the devoted husband of 49 years to Elizabeth “Libby” Meiners (nee Krusling), and loving father to Tracy Meiners Umberg (Tom), Jeff Meiners, Shaun Meiners (Suzanne Partridge, M.D.), Michael Meiners (Laura), and Elizabeth “Betsy” Meiners (Jeffrey Fuller). He is also the beloved “Papa” of 10, including Koyote “Kiki” Meiners-Rios, Max and Siena Umberg, Luke, Ava, Griffin and Owen Meiners, and Gabriela “Gabby”, Marley, and George Meiners.

Dr. Meiners deceased parents are Louis George and Esther (nee Schneider) of Western Hills, and is survived by his sister Elaine Westrich (Ray), and brothers Daniel (Mary) and Richard “Rick” (Jenny). Louis graduated from St. Gregory’s Seminary in 1963. Upon graduation, he studied pre-medicine at Xavier University.

Lou then went on and obtained his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1971. He completed his residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, and went on to have a long career in Obstetrics and Gynecology there. A life-long learner, Louis went back to school mid-career to study law at the University of Cincinnati while working full-time, and graduated with a J.D. degree in 1989.

It was noted that during this time, Dr. Meiners delivered the most babies in Cincinnati. A true renaissance man, Louis had a variety of hobbies and interests, including piloting his beloved Cherokee airplane, spending time at his “Triple L Farm” with family, beekeeping, attending Xavier Musketeer basketball games, and traveling with family and friends. After retirement, Lou continued his quest for learning, studying German at the Tri-State German -American School and abroad, hunting arrowheads, enjoying time with his grandchildren, and assisting with weekly mass at Wellington.

Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola in Monfort Heights on Thursday, January 3, 2019. Public visitation will be held from 4:30 – 5:30pm, with mass of Christian burial immediately following at 5:30pm. Burial on Friday, January 4th at 11am at Gate of Cemetery.
