Mr. Loyce, “L.L.” Ward, age 95 of Darlington and a veteran of World War II, laid his armor down and moved to his Heavenly Home, Monday, June 11, 2018. He was born October 10, 1922 in Darlington to the late John Jackson Ward and Lena Griggs Ward. He received his early education at the old Darlington School and then attended high school in DeFuniak Springs.

Mr. Ward joined the U. S. Army in December of 1942 and was Honorably discharged in November of 1945 in Camp Blanding, Florida after serving in New Guinea, Sou Philippines, Leb Luzon. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, ATO Medal, APTO Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Also serving in World War II were his brothers Daniel and Adolph.

After separation from the Army, Loyce farmed and did construction, then to North Carolina where he married his sweetheart, Monette Moseley from Gaskin, Florida. Upon returning to Florida, Loyce and Monette settled in Darlington where they built their present home and lived happily for seventy years. He was a skilled hunter and fisherman with many trophies on his wall to prove his good marksmanship.

He was also a master construction engineer with Dyson Construction Company of Pensacola. After a full life of 95 years, Loyce, who at the time of his death was Darlington’s oldest citizen, died peacefully at home with his brother David at his side. He is predeceased by his wife, Monette Ward; brothers Daniel and Adolph and his sister Bobbie Jean Burkett.

The family wishes to express their heart felt thanks to all the staff from Emerald Coast Hospice who were there day or night when they needed encouragement or help or a listening ear and give praise and glory to Our Great Comforter, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Among survivors are his brother, David Ward and wife Mary Lee, sisters-in-law, Mary Ward, Mildred Ward, Virginia Moseley and Margaret Moseley, numerous nieces and nephews and friends also survive. Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Loyce Ward’s memory to Darlington Baptist Church.

A time of visitation will be held in the church Loyce joined in 1934 at age 12, where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and various other offices, Darlington Baptist Church Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 9 A.M. until 10 A.M. with the funeral beginning at 10 A.M. with Reverend Barry Joiner officiating. Burial will follow in the Ward Family Plot in Darlington Cemetery.
